Bachelorette Bonanza

Here are some photos from our December 1st Bachelorette Bonanza! This new girly evening held at Piper's at The Marott was a PARTY just for the brides-to-be and all of their girlfriends! Brides wer greeted inthe lobby with champagne and the unique registry designs of !nk Art Studios. Great ideas for hair , make-up and skin were found in the Diva Makeover Room which featured La Dolce Salon & Spa, Trisha Fish (Flirt Salon), Elegant Hair Designs, and Mary Kay. Bridal measurements were offered by The Sewing Lady and all brides could try on and shop for beautiful veils and head peices after their hair trial courtesy of My Veil Shop. Family Vacations and Hott Destinations Travel helped brides escape and begin their honeymoon and destination wedding planning.

Brides moved quickly through out the rest of venue to the Cigar & Crystal Rooms for sassy bachelorette games with Intimate Expressions, custom jewelry consultations with Stella & Dot and Fifth Avenue Collection and only the best in photography selection with Collective Moments, Occasions Photography and Mike Taylor Weddings. Pink Poppy Ink was in the house with custom invite information as the delicate sounds of the harp playing by Melissa Galland sailed through the air. Zany pictures were taken with friends in the Shoots and Laughter Photo Booth set in the ballroom, where brides also enjoyed a fun tarot card readings and mini fashion shows at 6pm & 7:30 featuring bridal and special occasion fashions from A Step Above Bridal.

Great food and desserts was served up all night by Chef Will Osgood- owner and head chef of Piper's Catering, Cakes by Cathy and Cake Zen. Bridal gift ideas were offered by Thirty-One Consultants and the venue featured over the top linen designs and venue decor by the dynamic Atmospheres of Celebrations and LGI Linens. It was truly a special night as the DJ's with One For All Entertainment and DJ Sound Solutions played great music all night long! Drink were served in the Atrium where a garden ceremony site was set and music played for the enjoyment of all. If you missed it, please visit us on Facebook or come to one of our 2012 Bridal Shows! Things to consider when choosing your wedding band

When deciding which men's wedding band is right for you, first you need to consider your lifestyle.

Everybody is different and doen't like the same thing or have the same type of lifestyle. What types of things do you like to do and how exactly will or if it will effect your wedding band. Some things to think about:

Can you wear your wedding band when you work?
Are there special requirements for the type of band that you can wear at work? ? Are you a mechanic, tradesman or working with machinery and equipment that could get caught on a band?

Do you work with your hands - will it be tough on your band?
You need to consider whether your band can stand up to that harsher treatment if your in say- construction. Can your band stand up to the stress and the wear placed on it?

Will you wear your wedding band everyday?
When possible, most men choose to wear their wedding band every day. Though there are some jobs where it's not possible to wear your band to work, or some men prefer not to wear their wedding band every day. This is true for some professions like physicians.

All these things come in to play but here are some some solutions if your newly married and discouraged because you can't wear that new band.

Wear your wedding band only the weekends and special occasions and choose a band that's a little more unusual so you can enjoy it when you do wear it.

Wear your wedding band on a nice chain that matches your ring if you can't wear it on your finger. Make sure your ring type is suitable to be worn on a chain (for example woven or more intricate bands are not as suitable to be worn on a chain).

If your into extreme sports like rock climbing, football, basketball or surfing and you think it's going to be rough on your band, we recommend that you not wear your wedding band while you play. Especially if it has stones or special hardware or designs.

If your absolutely can't stand to part from your band or your lady just won't allow it- work with someone knowledgeable to pick the perfect band for you!

The biggest chore for a wedding guest is to decide how much money to put in the envelope. Not all weddings are equal. Therefore every couple getting married does not deserve the same gift. When giving a gift for a wedding there are many factors you should consider so that you don't look cheap and more importantly so that you don't give too much.
When you give cash is to remember to give it at the end of the reception. This gives you a chance to have fun and look at how much work the bride and groom put into the event. It also gives you a chance to consider how much work YOU put into the event. Remember, its not the gift, it’s the thought that counts. If you put a lot of thought into a wedding . . . you should give money.

What to Know About Night Time Wedding Ceremonies

If you want to set a romantic scene, few things beat a ceremony under the stars. But with that romance comes some serious logistical issues. Here's what to do to make your evening wedding go smoothly.

Visit your venue at the same time of night. If you'll be exchanging vows indoors, make sure the electricity is powerful enough for guests to see the action from the back rows. If you're marrying outdoors, see if there is enough lighting already in place or if you'll need to bring in some extra illuminations.

Walk where your guests will walk. Even if the main ceremony site is well lit, the area the guests will need to pass through may not be. Check them out and if the space is too dark, see what the venue manager can do to light things up.

Asses the insect situation. With the exception of lightning bugs which would be cool to have floating about during a wedding ceremony, insects can be real pains in the neck (arms or legs). Guests shouldn't be subjected to bug bites during your ceremony. If mosquitoes or other pesky pets are a problem, at least have spray on hand for guests to douse themselves.

Give your photographer and videographer a heads up. They should figure it out from the time of year and the time of night of your wedding, but remind them that it will be dark when you say "I do". That way, if they need to bring extra equipment to light up the scene, they'll be prepared.

Plan for a temperature drop. There can be a 20- or 30- degree difference between daytime and evening temps. If guests will be sitting outside at night, wraps would make a great favor for the ladies. Consider bringing in heaters to keep your friends and family warm.

Use candle's carefully. I would've just loved to have had an outdoor evening ceremony where candles are the only light sources (so dreamy, right?). Some tips: Plop your candles in hurricane vases (where the glass is higher than the candle) so the flame won't have to fight breezes. If you'd like to line the aisles with candles, make the path extra-wide. Formal wear can be flammable, so you want plenty of space to saunter to the alter.

Take advantage of the darkness. Having guests toss petals as you make your way up the aisle works nicely for a daytime wedding. You won't see those petals against a pitch-black sky, though. Sparklers, on the other hand will stand out nicely.

10 Things to Know Before Attending a Bridal Show

Bridal shows. To attend or not to attend? Is it worth it? Absolutely!
Those planning an upcoming wedding cannot afford not to attend.

With the bridal show season coming right around the corner, it’s time to consider attending and which ones to attend.

Brides can plan attending those shows coming to the area and surrounding city/towns. Jotting down dates & times, as well as the times for fashion shows is a helpful reminder.

Brides can save a lot of time and huge amounts of money, have the opportunity to be face to face with top wedding industry experts, see the latest fashions in wedding gowns and tuxedos, pick up great ideas for the wedding and while doing all that possibly walking away with wonderful door prizes.

Here are some Fantabulous tips when attending bridal shows:

1.Arrive early Arriving early is great. Many times the bridal shows offer extra incentives for those that do so.

2.Pre-register before the show Most times when pre-registering, you can get a discount for admission. When attending Bridal Jubilee Expo, you get $4 off for pre-registration.
3.Bring your friends, family & bridal party Bringing your friends, family & bridal party will help them feel much more involved. It is a great opportunity to ask their opinions or help you make a decision on hiring services for your wedding day.

4.Make contact info labels. Wedding vendors will often have drawings for prizes at their booths. Instead of having to fill out multiple forms with your contact info, prepare some labels before the bridal show. Information to include: your name, address, phone number, and email address. Using the pre-printed return address labels work well.

5.Bring a notebook and pen so you can take notes. Write down contact info of vendors, attach flyers or business cards from those you talked to or thoughts you have while attending the bridal show.

6.Bring a digital camera. This will allow you to quickly remember some of the great things you saw at the show. Did you see a great dress during a bridal fashion show? Maybe there is a great cake from a wedding cake designer. It’s a good idea to ask before snapping the photos.

7.Know your budget. Setting your wedding budget and knowing who is responsible for each thing will help you make decisions and know what you are looking for while attending the show.

8.Bring your checkbook. Many wedding vendors will offer a “Show Day Only” discount. Take advantage of these deals. This will help you save even more money if you are able to find your vendors at the bridal show.

9.Do your research. Know which services you will need before the show. Also try to find out which wedding vendors will be exhibiting. This will help you know what questions to ask and allow you to visit those vendors you are particularly interested in. Attending a Fantabulous Events “Wedding Planning Exchange” can help too.

10.Plan to be there for several hours. Plan on attending the bridal show for several hours. Allow yourself time to visit all the vendors and find everything you need. Don’t rush yourself. Also, stay for each fashion show. Great prizes are given away after each of them. Most importantly, have a good time.

TWINKIE WEDDNG CAKE

Servings: 27 here's the recipe

This Hostess original recipe is a Twinkie take on a wedding cake. Fondant is a prepared confection, readily available at stores selling cake decorating supplies and large craft stores. It comes in a variety of colors and in various package supplies. You can also color your own by kneading small amounts of food coloring into the fondant to get the shade you desire, and then just roll out as usual. To use it, place it on a board lightly dusted with cornstarch or confectioner's sugar and roll it or the desired thickness , usually about 1/8 inch thick, with a rolling pin.

Ingredients: 7 3/4 pounds prepared fondant in 2 colors

27 Hostess Twinkies

1 piece of Styrofoam

1 cardboard cake round, covered with decorative, food safe, aluminum foil

1 1/2 can butter cream frosting

1 8 diameter, 4-inch thick) piece of Styrofoam

1 cardboard cake round, covered with decorative, food safe, aluminum foil

Instructions: Reserve 1 pound of fondant and roll the rest out to 1/8-inch thick.

Wrap 13 of the Twinkies in strips of one of the colors of fondant (3 1/2 to 4 ounces fondant per Twinkie). Lightly brush the edges of the fondant with water to seal tightly. Wrap the remaining 14 Twinkies in the other color fondant. For the top layer, place the 4-inch round of Styrofoam in the center of the 7-inch cardboard round. Frost the top and sides with one-third can of Frosting.

Alternating the colors, arrange 10 of the fondant wrapped Twinkies upright around the Styrofoam, attaching them with frosting, with the seams facing in. The top edge of the Twinkies should be even with the top of the Frosted Styrofoam.

For the bottom layer, place the 8-inch round of Styrofoam in the center in the 11-inch cardboard round. Frost the top and sides with the remaining 2/3 of the first can of Frosting. Alternating the colors, arrange the 17 fondant-wrapped Twinkies upright around the Styrofoam, attaching them with frosting, with the seams facing in. The top edge of the Twinkies should be even with the top of the Frosted Styrofoam.

Fill a pastry bag fitted with a #12 tip for larger decorations (or a #4 or #5 tips for more delicate decorations) with frosting. Pipe a decorative filigree of Frosting on the top of the Twinkies on the bottom layer, or mold fondant into decorative shapes and position on top of the Twinkies.

Stack the top layer on the bottom layer. Fit the pastry bag with a #6 tip. Pipe dots of Frosting around the edge of the cardboard circles. Cut flowers from the fondant with a small cookie cutter and decorate the tops of the Twinkies on the top layer. Fit the pastry bag with a #3 tip and pipe a small dot of Frosting in the center of each flower.

To make the bow on the top of the cake, roll the reserved 1 pound of fondant out to a 1/8-inch thickness and cut into strips about 1-inch wide. Place a generous dollop of frosting on top of the cake, then use a strip of fondant to make a loop, sticking the ends into the Frosting to secure. Continue to add loops of fondant ribbon, securing each loop in the Frosting, to make a large bow.

While the year is still early, a look at 4,097 survey samples show 2010 bridal show attendance should be up 14% over 2009. 2009 samples (couples surveyed between 5/21/09 – 8/31/09, 2,671 samples) show that 32.4% will use bridal shows as a source to find vendors for their wedding. These samples include brides married in 2009 and to be married in 2010 and 2011.

2010 samples (couples surveyed between 1/1/10 – 4/19/10, 1,426 samples) show that 36.9% will use bridal shows as a source to find vendors for their wedding. These samples include brides married in 2009 and to be married in 2010 and 2011. However, there far less 2009 samples included than the previous sample set.

Mom, Aunt Jane or yourself can plan your wedding, however, if time is tight, you just may wish to consider a consultant. Consultants work for you to bring your ideas, wishes and wants to reality. Here is just some thoughts and questions that you may wish to ask them.

Formal Training?

-A professional bridal consultant is usually trained. Some call themselves bridal planners. If you planned your wedding and your best friends wedding, does that make you a consultant? Not really, a consultant knows the answers to the tough questions in their market, like marriage laws, venues, photo venues, caterers, DJ's, Photographers, etc. They can foresee a mistake getting ready to happen long before it does. They are quick on their feet and can fix a crisis before it ever turns into one. They interview and know their professionals to match them up with your wants and services.

Will you be with me all day?

-A good consultant will be there from start to finish, from the time you awake until you leave the reception, she is your personal concierge. She or he not only makes sure your personal day goes smoothly but that of the entire wedding party and events.

How many weddings do good consultants plan a week? Month?

-Insiders say that a good consultant can't do more than 4 weddings a month, there is just barely enough time to keep up with you and 3 other brides. They have many responsibilities and meetings. The bigger the staff the more they can do. You have to decide if you want team of professionals or a few personal individuals close to you on your big day.

Cost?

-Some have packages. If you feel you don't have enough for a reception, let alone a consultant, this is where I found out something that I will share with you. They know how to get the most out of your money, that is the main reason you contract one. I have seen very special weddings and receptions done by consultants on a shoe string budget(It actually will impress you what they can do and their ideas)

Can I have what I want?

-Great question. A consultant will tell you what you can and may have to go without depending on your budget. They can design short cuts and create cost saving techniques to make your dollar stretch.

Payments, when are they do?

-Most want a deposit for the day and will allow payment arrangements to varying degrees for the balance. Trust in a consultant, they really are not just for the $50,000 weddings.

HOW MUCH RIBBON ON CAKES?

Wrapping ribbon around the base of a cake is a very popular design these days. Many bakeries/bakers ask the bride to provide the ribbon simply to assure the correct color the bride is looking for. I can do a week's worth of stories on how brides were upset because it was sage green instead of hunter green, or it was baby blue instead of pastel blue! To avoid these issues, it's usually best for all concerned when the bride hands the baker the ribbon and says, "THIS is the ribbon color for my cake!"

Many times I've been given a quantity of ribbon that wasn't sufficient to go all the way around a cake. Fortunately in the couple of instances this happened, it was a color that was easy to match and I ran out at the last minute to pick up some additional feet of it.

But as a bride, how do you know how much to provide?

Remember those math, algebra and geometry classes where you tried so hard to stay awake? Well, let's hope you did because those lessons will apply here.Square cakes are pretty simple. A 10" square cake means each side is 10" long. So a minimum of 40" is needed (10" x 4 sides = 40"). But don't hand your baker just 40". Add a little extra to allow for the icing that will extend the sides ever so slightly. Add a little extra to give the baker some slack to work with in case something happens. A cake that requires 40" of ribbon, I would recommend at LEAST 50 to 60 inches.

And that's just for one tier.

Round cakes is where the geometry class comes in. A 10" cake is 10" across the diameter. To find the circumference (the distance around the cake), it's a simple case of "diameter times Pi", or 10" x 3.14 = 31.4 inches of ribbon. Again, add a little extra "just in case". I'd recommend 40 to 48".

And that's just for one tier.

Seriously, I had a bride who was thinking out loud and said, "So for a 10" cake, two feet should work, right?" Uh......... No. So I had to do the math with her so she could see how much she would really need.

As you, the bride, shop for your wedding cake, find out if the baker provides the ribbon or if the bride provides the ribbon. If you, the bride, are required to provide the ribbon, work with your baker to make sure you provide enough ribbon to create the cake of your dreams.

Doesn’t’ matter where you are in your business, brand new or veteran, real businesses have policies and rules. You need some, even though you may think of wedding planning, or photographer or officiating or DJing as personal and not something to sully with legalese.

Rules can be kind and thoughtful. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that it’s irresponsible not to have guidelines. How could you expect someone to know how to act if she’s never experienced working with a wedding professional before?

It’s really up to you to set the tone both with clients and, if needed, with other wedding professionals for what you expect from your working relationship. You’ll save yourself untold aggravation and be rewarded with clients that really do value you when you set expectations.

5 TIPS TO HELP YOU STAY FOCUSED

Brides are you on Wedding Planning Burnout? Vendors are you stuggling on how to reach a new bridal client? If so, read on:

1.STOP RESISTING

I know that when I’m totally out of focus, and playing on social media too long, it’s because I’m burned out. I need to stop resisting what my body is telling me: I NEED a BREAK. And sitting at the computer web-surfing isn’t going to make me feel better. Taking a 30 minute walk, going for a cup of coffee, or laying down for half an hour is a better use of my time. Stop resisting the need for a break and do it.

2.DRAIN THE BRAIN

When you have a gazillion things running through your head, you need a place to capture all of these thoughts. It sounds so simple, but making a list does wonders! Or, if a mile-long list will only add to the confusion, then simply write it all down in a journal. Get all of those wandering ideas, brainstorms, challenges, fears onto paper. It’s amazing how refreshed you’ll feel when you are done.

3.GO OUTSIDE

I don’t know about you, but I definitely don’t go outside enough. This is even more CRAZY because I live in Miami. I have this work ethic that makes me think I have to be at my desk from 9-5 at a minimum, with meetings as the only exception. WHY is THIS? Why can’t I work outside… or take a deep breath outdoors… or lay on the grass for 5 minutes? Why must I be chained to this desk? It’s amazing how a little change of scenery can quickly re-inspire you.

4.TAKE a REAL LUNCH BREAK

I met a friend for lunch yesterday. I actually got into my car, drove to meet her… and she isn’t even in the wedding industry… and we had a LOVELY two-hour lunch. I know this might sound nuts to some of you. But, it is something I definitely don’t do often enough. This is particularly true when I’m in the middle of my busy season… or in my case this week, trying to wrap up loose ends before leaving town. And, you know what? I came back SUPER-FOCUSED. Talking with her about non-business things, having a great meal (outdoors!), and taking a REAL lunch break recharged my batteries.

5.CHOOSE ONE THING

Some days, there are simply too many things to do. This makes it hard to focus on just one thing. So, we try to focus on many things… and end up focused on nothing. (See my post on the Perils of Multi-tasking.) So, choose ONE THING to do. Commit to getting only that one thing for the day. Which is the most time critical? Which is the most important? If you get it done, and want to do another, then do it. But, focus on that one thing ONLY and see how far you get.

Are you just starting out or need to get viewers for your newsletter? Here are some simple things you can do to get a quality email list:

•Ask customers to sign up for your newsletter list online and offline, and make it fun and easy:

•Put a "Join My Mailing List" box on your homepage and link to a newsletter archive.

•Promote your e-mail newsletter on your blog and social media profiles regularly.

•Include an e-newsletter teaser and sign-up link on your business cards and on other printed media.

6 Tips for better Email Subject Lines

It happens all the time: You've written the content for your newsletter. You have all the articles perfectly squared away and laid out. Then you're faced with the task of writing a compelling subject line so irresistible that readers can't help but open and read your email.

The good news is you can craft powerful subject lines and article headlines that will attract readers. Here are six key steps to making it happen.

1. LIST YOUR AUDIENCE'S HOT TOPICS

Do you know what the chatter is in your area of business and how your audience may be affected by it? Are people worried about a decrease in sales or donations? Are they looking for ways to cut back on spending or to eat healthier? Find out what your customers and members are buzzing about, and keep a list of these topics handy. That way you'll have fodder for ongoing newsletter content. Better yet, your subject line writing will become a lot easier because you'll know what's likely to get noticed in recipients' inboxes.

2. INCLUDE NUMBERS

Headlines with numbers in them work well because they imply easily digestible content. So why not use numbers in your email subject line too? For instance:

"Only 4 seats left for next week's seminar"

"A 10-point plan for marketing success"

"3 ways to turbo-charge your marketing today"

Putting a number in your subject line makes what you're saying quantifiable. "Three quick points," "Eight simple tips," "Four seats left," etc. This lets readers know exactly what they can expect and makes them more willing to read the content.

3. GET INSPIRED

Consider getting inspiration from subject lines and headlines you see in other publications. A great source of inspiration is a website called CopyBlogger.com6. It offers out-of-the-box, engaging, and fun subject line and headline ideas for email marketers and bloggers. You wouldn't want to take anything you see there and copy it word-for-word, but choose a headline or subject line that catches your eye and tailor it to describe your own articles.

4. ENCOURAGE ACTION

With any subject line, especially a promotional one, make sure to include a call to action, such as a deadline or text like "Respond now," to get people to open immediately. Get in the wheelhouse of your audience by being interesting and engaging in your subject line, and inspiring urgent action.

5. THINK OF YOUR SUBJECT LINE AS A TWEET

Social media is a great tool for extending the reach of your email, and in many cases, your subject line is all the text you'll need. For example, on Twitter, you only have 140 characters to communicate, including the URL of your archived message. That's more than enough characters for the subject line of an email. After all, conventional wisdom says that all subject lines should be five to eight words and no more than 40 characters long because some email clients will cut off the rest. If you think of your subject line as a multi-purpose promotional tool for your message -- that it should encourage opens of your email and clicks from your Twitter feed -- then you'll understand why it should say more than just "Our April Newsletter." Be creative and, where appropriate, playful with your subject lines.

6. TEST YOUR SUBJECT LINES

Not every subject line will work for your campaigns, so test them out to see what tactics get your audience to open. A good way to test is to make a list of all the people who opened an email from you in the last 85 days and divide it in two. Using the same email content for both groups, send one subject line to the first group and a second, different subject line to the other group. Then compare open and click-through rates to see which subject line performed best. One subject line could be more generic and the second could be more engaging. See which approach works best for your audience and pattern your future subject lines after that one.
